The maltese dog is a small breed dog that is supposed to come from Italy. The name 'Maltese' comes from 'Mallat' that means port, maybe because of their great job hunting the rats of the ships. Their ancestors appear back in time, in the Ancient Egipt, lots of statues are very similar to them. In XVII - XVIII you could see smaller maltese dogs and with different colours, it's in 1959 when the white colour is established as the maltese dog colour, thats why we now see these lovely pompoms, as I like to call them, in white. They are loyal, loving, and even great as an alarm dog, they are perfect as companion, a really pleasant dog. Those little dark eyes and that precious white hair makes them irresistible...
